THE VOYAGE OUT follows three individuals on an 8-day bow hunting expedition in search of an elk, often considered the most elusive prey in North America. Marc Warnke, a professional hunting guide and Callie Russell, a goat herder and renowned survival expert, lead Mansal Denton, a struggling tech entrepreneur with a complicated past, on his first elk hunt. Using Marc’s team of trained pack goats to carry supplies, the trio make a grueling trip, hiking deeper into the mountains than any hunter would dare venture… Nothing goes as planned.
Shot on lush Super 16mm film, inspired by the early art house and sports films of the ‘70s, THE VOYAGE OUT elegantly navigates humanity’s complicated relationship with death as a means to discovering a path towards living a fuller life. Quietly profound and unexpectedly moving, the film takes the viewer on an epic, life-changing journey into the breathtaking and treacherous mountains of Idaho.
THE VOYAGE OUT is a feature length documentary produced, directed and edited by Barlow Jacobs. It was Executive Produced by Ley Line Entertainment who won Best Picture at the 2023 Academy Awards for their film EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. The film is represented by Fifth Season and WME and will be released in Spring of 2026.
